Did you know that around one in six households in the UK own one or more dogs, which produce an estimated 900 tons of faeces every day? Yet many dog owners do not pick up their dog's droppings from communal open spaces simply because there is not a bin to put it in. Bin-it can help you to address this problem!
As well as being extremely unpleasant, dog faeces pose a number of risks to human health. These risks include bacteria that can cause stomach upsets if ingested, and more seriously, Toxocariasis infection.
Toxocariasis can cause visual impairment and even blindness, and children are particularly vulnerable due to their weaker immune systems and because they are more likely to come into direct contact with uncollected dog faeces.
A recent survey by Encams, (Environmental Campaigns), showed that up to 16,000 people are affected by Toxocariasis every year. Because of this, the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996 requires owners to clear up after their dogs immediately. If they do not do so, they can be liable for fines of up to £1000.00.
